T1085Fundraisers representing Brentford FC Community Sports Trust completed the Ride London challenge on Sunday, with over 30 riders successfully tackling the course. Starting at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and finishing on The Mall, Ride London is a major part of the London 2012 Olympic Games Legacy.

The first of the 100 milers set-out with the lead group at 5.45am, with different members of the team departing throughout the morning. Several coaches from the Community Sports Trust took on the challenge as Peloton teams with two all-male groups and one all-female group. A further three riders took on the 46-mile challenge.

Lee Doyle, CEO at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust said ‘The Ride London festival including the Freecycle on Saturday is a fantastic, inspiring Olympic legacy event. I am proud to be part of The Bees team, we have riders from the Trust, Club, Business Partners and our local Community all wearing the special edition Bees cycling shirt, it has created a real spirit of togetherness and that is also evident with other organisations and individuals out on the course.

Fundraising is an important source of income for the Trust, and creates the opportunity to not only deliver our existing projects, but also to continue to grow. For example, one of the riders was provided with employment as a direct result of fundraising at the event and has just been promoted to a management position at the Trust. I would like to thank all the riders and sponsors who made the event the success it was – we are aiming to raise over £15,000.’

Local business owner Nick Kilby from teapigs, said “This is the second year I have cycled with the Community Sports Trust and it was again an excellent day all round. As a Brentford supporter one of the best things was hearing people cheering Brentford on the route. “
