In our first touring exhibition we welcome works from Gertrude Hermes OBE (1901–1983), one of the most innovative wood engravers of the twentieth century.

Located in our Special Exhibition Gallery within the museum, the exhibition highlights Hermes’s enduring fascination with the natural world – from her Jazz Age bird, fish and flower prints to her monumental coloured linocuts of the 1950s. Drawing on the rich collections of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the exhibition includes wood engravings, woodblocks, linoprints, original drawings and a selection of her engraving tools.

To complement the exhibition, we have a number of special events including a talk by the exhibition’s Curator and creative workshops. Full details can be found within our event listings.
